EAA Ultralight Chapter #1, the Microlite Flyers Inc. of Wisconsin, is sponsoring a youth to attend the 2008 EAA Youth Air Academy / Young Eagles Camp. This camp is designed as an introduction to the wonderful world of aviation. The program uses small group activities and close counselor relationships to present the basics of flight in a science camp format that is a unique combination of fun and discovery.
The rules for qualification are as follows:
Qualifications/Terms for Applicants and Sponsors
- An applicant must be 12 or 13 years of age (by June of 2008).
- A qualified sponsor is defined as: A current member of the Mircolite Flyers Inc. of Wisconsin, EAA UL Chapter 1, AND a current member of EAA.
- An applicant must be sponsored by a qualified sponsor. Said applicant need not be related to the sponsor. Applicants can be, but are not limited to: Son, Daughter, Grandchild, Great-Grandchild, Niece, Nephew, Neighbor, Friend's Child, etc. "As a qualified sponsor, if you're willing to endorse / sponsor a candidate...then it's OK with us."
- All applicants, and their sponsors are willing to accept the terms as stated here and below, and are willing to accept the judges decisions as final.
Content of the Application
- The application will consist of (in 100 words or less) their reasons, "Why I want to attend the EAA Air Academy".
Submission of Application
- All applications will include: a cover letter, the original application(essay), AND an anonymous copy of the application for the judges review.
- Cover letter with: the name, address, phone # of the applicant (youth),
and the name, address, phone #, Microlite Flyers membership #, and the EAA membership # of the Sponsor (Club Member)
- The original application (essay) and cover letter will be submitted to the secretary of the Microlite Flyers, on or before the submission deadline.
- The anonymous copy of the application (with the author/applicant, sponsor name(s) omitted) will be forwarded by the club secretary to the chief judge on or before the submission deadline.
Deadline for Submission
- All applications must be submitted to the club secretary "BY THE NOVEMBER 2007 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING" of the Microlite Flyers, before a motion to close the meeting has been accepted.
Judging of Applications
- A three member panel of judges will review the anonymous copies of all properly submitted applications and judge them on their content alone.
- The chief judge will be appointed by the President of the club, the other two (2) judges will be chosen by the chief judge.
- The judges will announce the winning application at "THE DECEMBER GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING" of the Microlite Flyers.
